About Us

CLIFF WILDING
(Founder of Light Engineering)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Light Engineering was formed in 1980 as a wholesale and distribution business, developing new products. First to
appear was the Parabeam 300 can for the Par 56 lamp, a basic light unit which
sold in its thousands, with many still in existence! Next came the famous
Parabeam 36 Pinspot, still selling greatly today and noted for its sturdiness
and reliability.
Then the very successful “Disco Extra Promotions” was created as an
alternative to the BADEM show in 1980, which was the start of
PLASA.
Cliff was an active member ever since.
In October 1981 Highlight Ltd was
formed as a holding company for Light Engineering and Lampspeed to trade under.
Then along came “Glowline” products and the sign-making part of the business
took off. Larger premises became necessary and the company moved to Eden Road,
Walthamstow.
Lighting effects memorably named Roger, Cyril, Doris and Eric were then invented
in the early 90s and many people still ask after them and for spare parts, so we
know they are being used to this day.
Light Engineering has been around for
29 years and we continue to produce many exciting items for our customers,
ranging from funky mirror ware, for which we are famous world-wide, to electronics and
sculptures.
Cliff passed away suddenly in 2008 but still the business continues to
grow with Paul Manning at the helm, another of Cliffs proud young protégés.
Cliff generated and insisted on a professional but friendly environment at Light Engineering, so please don't hesitate to contact us.
